Foreign Licence Conversion Pricing

Fees Cost Observations
Flight Time Student Rates per Hour:

  • R22: $500
  • R44: $750
  • Bell 206: $1,150
  • Bell 206L: $1,400

The total flight time depends on the student’s proficiency.

Transport Canada does not mandate a minimum flight hour requirement for a foreign license conversion. However, Great Lakes Helicopter requires a minimum training commitment of 5 hours of flight time.

To help prepare for the flight test some students may want to do anywhere from 3 hours up to 15+ hours. Someone who is doing a conversion after not having flown for 2 years may want more training than someone who has been flying continuously right up until the conversion begins.

Ground School $700 for full course or $50/hr for individual sessions.

Dependent on current ground knowledge and instructor availability.

Assessment tests will be given at the start of training to determinate ground school needs.

Books $420 The pack can be amended to reflect any equivalent books/equipment already owned.
Language Proficiency Test $100 Due to updates in the testing process, we are not able to conduct the language test for our students. So, the pricing may be different depending on which facility conducts the test.
Radio Licence $40
Transport Canada Written Test $105
Transport Canada Flight Test Examiner Fee $500 In addition, 1.5 flight time fee must be considered. The cost is dependent on the helicopter used to fly during the test.
Type Rating $30

*Note: For even experienced pilots that are doing the conversion there sometimes can be issues with passing the non-GPS (map) navigation portion of the flight test, since for some it may have been years navigating without anything but GPS. Also, if testing on an unfamiliar aircraft, time should be accounted for building up proficiency with that particular aircraft. Due to these reasons, we recommend that students prepare for the higher end of flight time in their financial planning.
